Bees, explained by someone who keeps them
We have been running bee education from kindergarten to tertiary for years. It is a working beekeeper talking about a working apiary, not a slideshow.
A class activity: drop a hive on a drawn map of the Cooloola coast and see what it can reach, and what is in flower, month by month. What a hive can reach
- Schools Kindergarten through to secondary.
- Tertiary Sessions for university and TAFE groups.
- Groups Community groups and clubs, by arrangement.
Megan's book
The Beehive
Our sessions are run by Murray and by Megan Daley, teacher librarian and author. Megan's picture book, The Beehive, follows Willow, who is waiting for the native beehive at her school to be split so she can take a hive home. Her story runs alongside the facts about Australia's native stingless bees.
Written by Megan Daley and illustrated by Max Hamilton, for readers from five. Published by Walker Books in 2024, and it received a World Beekeeping Apimondia Award in 2025. Teachers' notes linked to the Australian Curriculum are free on Megan's site.
